Investigate the accuracy of a beam balance in microgravity and discover the difference between weight and mass by following the scientific method! Students and crew on board the International Space Station (ISS) will work as a team to research mass versus weight, develop a hypothesis, conduct experiments, and record their findings, thus proving their hypothesis true or false. Students will then be challenged to solve problems relating to the effectiveness of the beam balance in space and on Earth. Topics covered include fulcrum, lever, effort, mass, weight, and equilibrium.
